Kids Crafts: Easy Totem Pole

Make a Native Indian Totem Pole from a paper towel roll.

Crafts Supplies:
  • A paper towel roll

  • Crayons, tempera paint, or markers

  • Brown construction paper (a few sheets)

  • Scissors

  • Tape

  • White glue

  • 2 lollipop sticks

Instructions:
  1. Wrap a piece of construction paper around a paper towel roll to see what size paper you will need.

  2. Trim the paper to the right height and width (allow about a half-inch overlap around the roll so you can glue the edges more easily).

  3. Divide the paper into 4 or more horizontal sections.

  4. Have your kids draw a different animal head in each section. Put most of the facial details in the middle of each section.

  5. Wrap the heads around the paper towel roll and glue the seams.

  6. Draw wings or arms for some or all of the animals. Cut them out and decorate them.

  7. Glue them to the back of the Totem Pole.

  8. Glue 2 lollipop sticks to the base so that your Totem Pole stands upright. Hot glue works well for this.

by: Sonya

Thanks Emma for sharing another Native Indian crafts idea which would work really well even with very young kids.
Lots of room for imagination too as to what to put on the totem pole.
Great idea.
Thanks for taking the time to tell us.
